Welcommen!
Never a truer sentence has been said than
'Nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got something to say But nothin comes out when they move they lips Just a buncha gibberish '....and hence I now have a blog.
As far as I get it this acts as a vent for me to spew all manners of shit that I wish to talk about. Excellent....
But where do I start...
Well there are many things that are happening in the world of Amit at the moment.
The most notable has to be the crazyness of the national lottery of our careers, Making Medicine Crap...the MMC. Where do I start in trying to qauntify the frustration we are having with this. Well a brief overview for those who havent read the Telegraph atricle indicating MMC will cause the demise of the NHS. MMC - or Modernising Medical Careers is a new fangled system where doctors of different grades and modalities of medicine apply for jobs that will eventually make us consultants. These schemes are called run through programmes. Sounds great eh?
Problem is that firstly this is the only way to pretty much guarentee a job within medicine...so if you don't apply, you don't get to practice...period. Secondaly, there are thousands more doctors than there are academic placements so ultimately you will be pushed out if you don't get in. Thirdly, you enter all of this data into a super computer, that is so powerful it crashed when peolpe were applying meaning that they lost the form they had worked so hard to complete. Oh, and did I forget to mention you apply for places in different parts of the country, except of course Scotland, which is counted as one region.
So why is this annoying. Well, after being born and raised in Glasgow, doing my degree in Glasgow, buying a flat in Glasgow, having my friends and family in Glasgow....why the hell would I want to move to the Isle of Lewis to become a consultant there? And this is not just my rant. Its the rant of pretty much everyone out there, who are in the same situation. Not a very flexible of 'modern' system. Cue Big Brother-esque doctor training.
This of course isn't massively helped by the fact that the computer selection has already meant experienced, post exam candidates haven't even got an interview, while those who are less experienced have. Nor is it helped by the fact that most consultants you talk to think the system is completely flawed and can never truely work, especially when there appears to be a massive shortfall in the number of doctors that it will recruit.
And finally, this ingenious system is so advanced its not even made by doctors, or healthcare professionals. Hence crappy questions that lead nowhere, asking you things that are not even related to medicine!
This is the reason why Doctors.net has thousands of very worried people out there. This is the reason why there has been marches in protest against the system. And now, this is the reason why the media is getting involved, to highlight our plight.
True people reading this may think, well f.u. your doctors, you make lots of money...haha...
But what will you do if there aren't enough doctors to run the NHS. Will you want to wait for 8 hours in the Accident and Emergency? Do you want someone who has no surgical background to help in your procedure? Do you like sub-standard service? If you answer no to any of them, then you should care about the plight of your healthcare in Britain.
So I will keep you updated on this hot topic and let you know what happens.
